Lorem Ipsum Domain Name Generator: Latin-Sounding Brand Names
Published 2026-10-19
Tool Guides Branding Generators Planning
Designers have used lorem ipsum as placeholder text for centuries. It reads like Latin, but it isn't quite Latin, and nobody owns it. Those same qualities make it a good source of brand names: the words sound old and trustworthy, they don't mean anything specific in English, and most two-word combinations have never been registered.
The Lorem Ipsum Generator on DNSLister turns that idea into a list you can work through. It joins two lorem ipsum words into one name, like loremsapien, and gives you 50 at a time, easiest to say first.
Quick answer
Open /tools/lorem-ipsum. You get 50 Latin-sounding names, each made of two lorem ipsum words joined together. Each name shows two scores: our Word Score and a Lorem score for how easily it reads aloud. Hover a name to see the words used in sample lorem ipsum sentences. Click a name to check the .com, joined and hyphenated, in Quick Lookup. Press Refresh for a new list.
What the tool does
- 50 names per list. Each one is two words from the lorem ipsum vocabulary (about 150 words) joined into one string.
- Easiest to say first. The list is sorted by the Lorem score, a 0-100 pronounceability rating. Names that roll off the tongue sit at the top. Tongue-twisters sink to the bottom.
- Weak names hidden. Any name whose Word Score is 0 or less is left out, so you don't spend time on obvious misses.
- Sample sentences on hover. Hover a name to see each word in a real lorem ipsum sentence. It is a quick way to get a feel for a word you have never seen before.
- Domain links. Each name links to Quick Lookup for the .com, both joined (loremsapien.com) and hyphenated (lorem-sapien.com).
The two options
Avoid alliteration (on by default) skips pairs where both words start with the same letter, such as loremleo. Alliterative names can be catchy, but in a joined domain the repeated sound often blurs together. Turn the option off if you want to see them.
Start with lorem (off by default) makes every name begin with lorem: loremsapien, loremvita, loremnova. Use it if you like the lorem prefix as a family name for a set of products, or want a name that hints at design, writing or placeholder text.
Two scores, two jobs
The Lorem score answers one question: can people say this name? It is a pronounceability rating from 0 to 100, and it decides the sort order.
The Word Score is the same Domain Score DNSLister uses everywhere else. It looks at length, letter patterns, readability and other naming rules. A name can be easy to say and still score low because it is long, for example.
Use them together. Start at the top of the list, where names are easy to say, and pick the ones whose Word Score is also strong.
A practical workflow
- Run a few lists. Press Refresh three or four times and copy anything that catches your eye. Each list is a fresh random draw.
- Say each name out loud. The Lorem score is a good guide, but your own ear is better. Try it as a phone greeting: "Thanks for calling Loremsapien."
- Check the .com. Click the name to check the joined and hyphenated .com in Quick Lookup.
- Score the finalists. Paste your favourites into Score a Word to see live availability across the top TLDs and every Domain Score rule, explained one by one.
- Screen the meaning. Lorem ipsum words come from real Latin. Look up any word you plan to build a brand on, and check that it doesn't mean something unfortunate in the languages your customers speak.
Who it's for
- Design studios, agencies and writers, where a lorem name quietly signals "we make the page look good".
- Product families that want a shared Latin-sounding style across several names.
- Anyone stuck on a name who wants a pile of made-up, pronounceable words to react to. Sometimes a random name is the push you need, even if you end up somewhere else.
Honest limits
- It is lorem ipsum, not a Latin dictionary. The vocabulary is the lorem ipsum word set, about 150 words. If you need real Latin roots, build a word list of them and use the Domain Builder instead.
- 50 names at a time. This tool is for browsing ideas. To check thousands of combinations, use the Builder or Bulk Check.
- Only .com is linked. Each name links to the .com check. Use Score a Word or a TLD Sweep to see other extensions.
- Beta. The tool is new and may change as we learn which names people pick.
- Availability changes. A result is a live observation, not a reservation. Recheck any finalist and confirm with your registrar before you pay.
FAQ
Is lorem ipsum real Latin? Partly. It comes from a passage by Cicero, cut up and altered over the years. Some words are real Latin (dolor, vita, sapien). Others are fragments that only exist in lorem ipsum.
Can I trademark a lorem ipsum name? Lorem ipsum itself is public domain, and a made-up two-word combination can be distinctive. Trademark law depends on where you trade and what you sell, so check with a trademark professional before you commit.
Why are some names missing from the list? Names whose Word Score is 0 or less are hidden, and so are alliterative pairs unless you turn that option off.
Do I need an account? No. Anyone can open the Lorem Ipsum Generator while it is in beta.
Where are the other word-pair tools? Word Pairs builds two-word names from your own topics.
