DNS Providers

Public DNS resolvers — addresses, filtering policy, and DNS-over-HTTPS support. Free to download.

These are recursive resolvers. They will answer a query about any domain, which is what makes them useful for lookups and what this site uses them for. They are not managed/authoritative DNS hosting (Route 53, Azure DNS, NS1, and similar) — that kind of provider answers only for zones hosted with it, and cannot be asked whether some other domain exists.

A DoH endpoint is not necessarily usable from a web page. That also requires the operator to send CORS headers, which most public resolvers have no reason to do — they run the service for system resolvers, routers and phones, not browsers. The doh_hostname column says an endpoint exists, not that your JavaScript can read its answer.

Filtering policy is each operator's own published wording, unedited. The coloured badge is our coarse summary of it — if the two ever disagree, believe the operator.
