Search Syntax
One wildcard syntax, the same everywhere on the site: the Builder's domain search box, the cross-list Word Search, list name filters, and Admin's domain/pattern lookups all understand these rules the same way.
Type any part of a domain to match it anywhere (a plain word is a “contains” search). Add a wildcard to anchor the match to the start or end, or separate several terms with commas — every comma-separated term must match. Matching is case-insensitive.
| You type | It matches |
|---|---|
hub |
any domain containing “hub” —
github.com, hubspot.io |
gitl* |
starts with “gitl” —
gitlab.com, gitless.com |
*shop |
ends with “shop” —
coffeeshop, myshop |
*.com |
ends in “.com” (nothing after it) |
c?t |
? is exactly one character —
matches cat, cot;
not coat |
gitl*,*.com |
starts with “gitl” and ends in “.com” |
% is an alias for * and _ for
?, so SQL LIKE patterns work too — mix
them freely (ch*_t% is valid).
Matching includes the TLD. A domain search runs
against the whole string, e.g.
chemistry.com, not just
the name in front of the dot — so *shop matches
nothing (no domain ends in the literal text “shop”
once .com/.io/etc. is appended). Use
*shop.* instead to match anywhere before the TLD.
Where this applies
- Domain search inside a search's results page
- Cross-list Word Search
- Word list name filters on the Lists page
- Admin domain and pattern lookups
