How to Make Pokemon Domain Names: 3 Builder Tutorials

Tool Guides Availability Trust and Risk Tutorial
Every short, obvious Pokemon domain was registered years ago. What's still open are the combinations: a type name plus a word like "deck", or a region plus "trades". You can't type those in one at a time. That's what the Pokemon keyword topic on DNSLister is for. It holds 24 themed word lists and one de-duplicated "Unique Pokemon" list of about 2,100 words. Every list has a Builder button that turns it into an availability search.
This guide walks through three ways to use the Builder with that topic, from simplest to most flexible.
Quick answer
- Open dnslister.com/lists/pokemon.
- Pick a list (Types, Starters, Regions Places, Tcg Collecting…) and click its Builder button.
- Pair it with a second list, or add your own words, then run the search.
- Sort the results by availability and score, and shortlist the names that don't read as "official".
What's in the Pokemon topic
The topic page groups 24 lists of roughly 100–130 words each. The lists are:
- Anime Media, Artists, Competitive Meta, Eeveelutions, Evolution Forms, Favorites
- Go (Pokemon Go terms), Gym Leaders, Heroes, Items Gear, Legendaries, Mechanics
- Moves, Mythicals, Natures Stats, Professors Researchers, Regions Places, Spin Offs
- Starters, Strong Grails, Tcg Collecting, Types, Versions, Villains
Each row has three buttons: View shows the words, Tools opens the list utilities, and Builder opens the domain Builder with that list already selected. Unique Pokemon merges all 24 lists and removes duplicates, so one word that appears in five lists is only checked once.
Tutorial 1: pair a Pokemon list with a second list
This is the classic "two lists" search. Every word on the left is joined to every word on the right, and each combination is checked as a domain.
- On the topic page, click Builder on Types (fire, water, psychic, dragon…).
- The list lands in Left List (prefix). In Right List (suffix), pick a list of generic endings. A short list of words like hub, deck, club, guide, league works well. If you don't have one yet, create a small list first.
- Set Max length to something like 15. Shorter names are easier to say and remember, and this drops the unwieldy combinations before they're checked.
- Set Word order to Shortest first, so the cleanest names come back first.
- Tick Exclude identical word pairs (it skips doubles like firefire).
- Optionally tick Add hyphen to also check versions like fire-deck.com.
- Run the search.
You'll get candidates like dragondeck, psychicguide or waterleague. Swap the left list for Regions Places or Starters and run it again for a different flavour.
Tip: use the Require: and Exclude: boxes under each list to narrow things without editing the list. For example, putting mega in Exclude on the left side drops every Mega form for that one search.
Tutorial 2: search the whole Unique Pokemon list
Use this when you want one-word names, not combinations.
- Open the Builder and choose the Search Unique Wordlists mode.
- Set the scope to By Topic and choose Pokemon from the Topic dropdown. That points the search at the 2,120-word Unique Pokemon list.
- Run it. Every word is checked as a standalone domain across the extensions you've chosen.
Expect most single Pokemon words to be taken in .com. The value of this run is finding which extensions are still open for a word you love (a .gg, .club or .fan, for example), and which less famous words (a move, an item, a nature) are still available everywhere.
To check one specific list this way instead of the whole topic, use the Single Wordlist mode and pick, say, Moves or Items Gear. Its optional filter lets you check only the words that match a pattern.
Tutorial 3: add your own words to a Pokemon list
Sometimes you already know the brand word you want, like trade, vault or binder, and need it paired with Pokemon terms. That's the runtime-words mode.
- Click Builder on Tcg Collecting (or Strong Grails if you're aiming at collectors).
- Switch to the runtime-words mode. Type your own words into Runtime words, for example
vault, binder, trade. They can be separated by commas, spaces or new lines. - Choose the Position:
- Prepend: Runtime + Wordlist, which gives names like vaultholo;
- Append: Wordlist + Runtime, which gives names like holovault.
- Run it, then switch Position and run it again. The two orders often sound very different, and availability differs too.
This is the fastest way to build a family of names around one idea, such as a Pokemon Go meetup group, a card-grading blog or a deck-building tool.
Reading the results
Every result is scored. The Domain Score weighs length, readability and how natural the word pair sounds, so a short, pronounceable name ranks above a jumble. Sort by score, keep the available names, and say your top five out loud. If you have to spell a name for someone, it's probably not the one.
Before you register: trademarks matter here
Pokémon, the Pokémon names and many of the character, move and item names are trademarks of Nintendo, Creatures Inc. and GAME FREAK (managed by The Pokémon Company). That has practical consequences:
- Don't imply you're official. Names like pokemon-official-store or pikachushop invite a complaint, and domain disputes (UDRP) over famous marks usually go the trademark owner's way.
- Prefer descriptive, community-style names. Generic game words are lower-risk than character names. Typematchup, deckvault and gymleaderguide are safer than names built on a trademarked character.
- Fan sites still need care. A clear "unofficial fan site" notice helps, but it doesn't make an infringing name safe.
This isn't legal advice. If you're building a business on the name, talk to a trademark lawyer before you buy.
Who this is for
- Fan bloggers, YouTubers and streamers who want a memorable channel or site name
- TCG sellers, graders and deck-building tool makers
- Pokemon Go community organisers and local league runners
- Anyone who wants to practise the Builder on a topic they know well
Honest limits
- Availability is checked at search time. A name can be registered by someone else before you buy it.
- The lists are curated, not exhaustive. If a favourite term is missing, add it to a list of your own.
- Very large combinations are capped by your account's word budget. Free accounts can check plenty for a hobby project, and Premium raises the limit.
- The Builder finds and scores names. It doesn't check trademarks for you.
FAQ
Can I use "pokemon" in my domain name? Using the word "pokemon" in a domain carries real trademark risk, especially for anything commercial. Descriptive names built from generic game vocabulary are the safer route.
Why is almost every single-word Pokemon .com taken? The franchise is decades old, and names like those were registered early, often defensively. Combinations and newer extensions are where the open names are.
What's the difference between Unique Pokemon and the 24 lists? Unique Pokemon is all 24 lists merged with the duplicates removed. Use it for broad single-word sweeps, and the individual lists for focused combinations.
Do I need an account? You can browse the topic and its lists without one. A free account lets you save your searches and come back to the results later.
